Οποιος ασχολείται -έστω και επιδερμικά- με Online Marketing, SEO & Social Media, αποκλείεται να μην έχει ακούσει το όρο “Interest Graph”. Πρόκειται για μία νέα σχετικα θεωρία, η οποία τοποθετεί στο επίκεντρο της προσοχής (των εταιρειών) τον άνθρωπο -χρήστη του internet & των Social Media- και τα ενδιαφέροντα του. Ουσιαστικα μιλάμε για μία data mining process η οποία μας δίνει πλούσιο υλικό για τους χρήστες του Internet & των Social Media, βοηθώντας τις εταιρείες να εμπλουτίσουν το προφίλ των πελατών τους ώστε να καταλάβουν τις ανάγκες/επιθυμίες τους,  για να τους προσφέρουν tailor-made προτάσεις προϊόντων και  added value υπηρεσίες, βασιζόμενες στην ανάλυση των στοιχείων αυτών ή ακόμα και να βρούν νέες niche market αγορές προς εκμετάλλευση.

Ο πυλώνας πίσω απο την θεωρία του Interest Graph είναι η συσπείρωση χρηστών του internet & των Social Media γύρω απο κοινά ενδιαφέροντα και events – ένα φαινόμενo καθολικά αποδεκτό από όλους στον χώρο των Social Media. Οι εταιρείες προσπαθούν να δημιουργήσουν αλγόριθμους οι οποίοι θα είναι σε θέση να τους δώσουν πολύτιμα στοιχεία: π.χ. ενδιαφέροντα, δημογραφικά στοιχεία χρηστών, psychographics, επάγγελμα, κλπ. Στην συνέχεια οι εταιρείες θα μπορουν να κατηγοριοποιήσουν τους χρήστες αυτούς σε ομάδες (ανάλογα με τα ενδιαφέροντα τους) και να τους πλησιασουν μέσω tailor-made διαφημιστικών campaigns, κάνοντας τους στοχευμένες προτάσεις (ανάλογα με το προφίλ και τα ενδιαφέροντα τους). Ετσι οι εταιρείες θα μεγιστοποιήσουν το αποτέλεσμα και τα οφέλη απο τις διαφημιστικές τους καμπάνιες επιτυγχάνοντας market penetration σε πολύ υψηλό βαθμό.

Εκτός των παραπάνω, το Interest Graph μπορεί να προσφέρει και άλλες δυνατότητες στις εταιρείες. Δεν γνωρίζω πόσοι απο εσάς έχετε διαβάσει το βιβλίο «Συνδεδεμένοι» του Dr. Christakis. Το τελευταίο διαπραγματεύεται τα δίκτυα, την δομή τους και τον τρόπο λειτουργίας των μελών του δικτύου. Για όσους δεν το έχετε διαβάσει, ο συγγραφέας μας αναλύει πως σε κάθε δίκτυο κάποιοι χρήστες βρίσκονται στο επίκεντρο του δικτύου και κάποιοι στην περιφέρεια. Αυτοι που βρίσκονται στο κέντρο είναι οι «ενεργοί» και με τις περισσότερες συνδέσεις, σε σχέση με αυτούς που βρίσκονται περιφερειακά του δικτύου. Αυτοί που είναι στο κέντρο μπορούν να χαρακτηριστούν και σαν opinion leaders, καθώς είναι σε θέση να επηρρέασουν ένα μεγάλο μέρος του δικτύου. Σε αυτό το σημείο, η παρουσία του Interest Graph είναι σε θέση να ανοίξει νέες δυνατότητες και προοπτικές για τις εταιρείες: οι εταιρείες –μέσω του Interest Graph- είναι σε θέση να έχουν στατιστικα στοιχεία (στην προκειμένη περίπτωση π.χ.  μπορεί να είναι πόσους followers έχει στο twitter κάθε μέλος ενός forum για την Gillette). Εχοντας μια λίστα με τους 100 χρήστες οι οποίοι έχουν τους περισσότερους followers  στο twitter, οι εταιρείες ουσιαστικά έχουν βρεί τους Opinion leaders της συγκεκριμένης αγοράς, και έχουν την  ευκαιρία  να τους ενσωματώσουν στο product cycle ενός προϊόντος. Τι εννοούμε με αυτο?  Είναι γεγονός, ότι η Gillette πρίν λανσάρει κάποιο νέο προϊόν, δίνει την ευκαιρεία στους followers της στο twitter ή στα μέλη του forum της ιστοσελίδας της να το δοκιμάσουν και καταγράφει εντυπώσεις και γενικά feedback. Ετσι οι Opinion leaders  και προσφέρουν σημαντικό insight στην εταιρεία (impressions) αλλά και ενημερώνουν (και εμμέσως επηρρεάζουν) λόγω της θέσης τους  στο κέντρο του δικτύου (σαν opinion leaders) τους χρήστες που βρίσκονται περιφερειακά του δικτύου.

Οι Max Levchin & Bill Gurley –δύο απο τους πιο προβεβλημένους opinion leaders της αγοράς του online marketing & Social Media, προ μηνών στο συνέδριο της Goldman Sachs Technology & Internet Conference στο San Francisco, θέλοντας να τονίσουν την ολοένα και αυξανόμενη σημασία του Interest Graph για το online marketing, ανέφεραν χαρακτηριστικά ότι η επόμενη μεγάλη εταιρεία (“the next big thing”) επιπέδου Google ή Facebook θα είναι η εταιρεία που θα έχει ενσωματώσει πλήρως το Interest Graph στον Μodus Operandi της. Απο ότι φαίνεται λοιπόν, το Interest Graph θα διαδραματίσει ακόμα πιο σημαντικό ρόλο στα επόμενα χρόνια για τις εταιρείες.

During the past few months, a wind of change swept through North Africa and the Middle East and the world witnessed something unique, never been seen before: a rising tide of citizen-led protesters, protesting against autocratic and corrupt regimes that hold no respect to individual rights and liberal freedoms, forcing a domino effect of dictators abdicating and fleeing abroad -in most cases to the mother country of all “Black Sheep” dictators: Saudi Arabia.

Hosni Mubarak (Egypt), Ben Ali (Tunisia), Abdullah Saleh (Yemen), and now Gaddafi (Libya) and Assad (Syria), all these dictators have something in common: certainly they didn’t see it coming! They underestimated growing public discontent and the dynamics of  Social Media, perhaps due to the fact that they held power for many years (even decades), thus they controlled completely and effectively all critical government branches (e.g. the Police, the  Army or the State Media), and they felt assured that their reign will continue forever. Sadly (for them), there is no such thing as “forever”.

But to what extend Social Media shaped the fortunes of the people in North Africa and the Middle East? What makes them so effective? Well, it is the author’s opinion, that the undisputed rise of Social Media, marks the end of Tyrant era for several reasons:

First of all, Social Media provide uncontrolled and un-edited information for the masses, bypassing the State controlled media propaganda. In Hitler’s Germany-around mid 1930’s- there was only one German radio station operating and since it was controlled by the government, it meant that the German public would have to listen (all day long) to Hitler’s speeches and propaganda messages. Contrary with today, where the great advantage of the Internet & Social Media –due to its structural design and universal character- is that they cannot be censored. They simply cannot be controlled by any government or business group. Sultan Suood Al Qasimi who had an active role during the Egyptian revolution against former President Mubarak, and had more than 50.000 followers on Twitter, said that at one point an Egyptian come to him and asked him to stop tweeting that the Police had evacuated certain large areas of Cairo, because this would cause mass panic and hysteria to the crowds. This is how effective his twits were.

In addition, in a totalitarian  (one party) regime, Social Media can-up to a point- play the role of the  opposition party, constantly checking the government and even criticizing, the later, for their oppressing policies and excessive civilian abuse. In Syria for example, activists that used Social Media, successfully launched the “Syria Tracker” application, which monitors and documents unrest areas and human rights abuses by the Syrian government. Shortly after, due to its vast numbers of visitors, the “Syrian Tracker” (owning its publicity to Social Media coverage), became “a fait accompli” adopted by the World Press and Media, having as a result for the Syrian government to draw heavy fire from international Media, foreign governments and organizations (such as the UN).

Moreover, Social Media can be seen as a platform laying the democratic & humanitarian foundations for each country to follow and uphold. There is an undisputed “Global culture” that contains some principles that are globally accepted by all people, such as: Freedom of speech, the Right to vote and others. In his 1992 book “The End of History and the Last Man” Francis Fukuyama, claimed that “…what we may be witnessing is not just the end of the Cold War, or the passing of a particular period of post-war history, but the end of history as such: that is, the end point of mankind’s ideological evolution and the universalization of Western liberal democracy as the final form of human government”. Social Media due to their Western origins, regard the respect by any authority of these Human Rights as self evident. Thus, it is difficult for a totalitarian regime to suppress the people, in a country where the majority of the people use and interact through Social Media. For example, in Egypt according to statistics, almost ¾ of the internet users were using Social Media. In such a global, digital environment it is becoming increasingly difficult for totalitarian regimes to resist or deny respect of Human Rights or democratic reforms or elections. Dictators now days are facing a digital invasion of their realm, by a global culture -based on humanitarian and democratic principles, as described by F. Fukuyama- that is highly contagious, that they cannot restrain or ban, and eventually, this will lead to their fall. Former President Mubarak in Egypt was one of the first to realize the dynamics of the Social Media, thus during the early days of the Egyptian revolution, he hastily issued a directive, banning internet access to the country.

In addition, Social Media have another distinctive characteristic: Immediate effect, meaning, the publication of news/messages. Anyone with a mobile phone can take TV snapshots and post it over the web in order to inform the public. During the first days of the Syrian revolution in several cities where the army was battling the protesters and had enforced a “buffer zone” around them, so no information – regarding the military operations-would be available to the public, citizens of those cities used Social Media and Internet in order to upload live photos and info from the raging battles. It was through these channels that the World Media were informed of the Syrian army’s atrocities.

As an epilogue, we can conclude that although the main driving force behind the Arab Spring rests in the oppressive & highly corrupted nature of the, above mentioned, totalitarian regimes, Social Media contributed significantly in the Arab Spring.

Multichannel Publishing Since media organizations need to maintain multiple channels, the content that gets published across these channels should be consistent and be managed together. The Enterprise Content Management system (including video and rich media management) needs to be robust and scalable to effectively support the publication of content across multiple channels — including on the mobile Web, on different mobile applications such as iPhone apps, Android apps, etc., and on print channels, as well as integrate with third-party video feed and video distribution services. This ensures that the content is managed in a single repository, while getting published across multiple channels. Organizations are strongly advised to consider several technical solutions available in the market that enables them to abstract the technical challenges (e.g. browser properties, rendering, etc.) of publishing content to diverse devices. Search Engine Optimization Search engine optimization plays a major role in driving traffic to the website. The site should be optimized not only for its own content, but also for the content published on various other channels. Tools that can monitor the websites to track various SEO aspects, such as broken links, keywords, metadata information, etc., can play an important role in improving the site results. Advanced Analytics Media convergence requires tracking advanced analytics. Tracking campaigns that are spread across multiple channels is an essential part of it. For example, tracking the site visits or site activity based on video displayed on television and correspondingly broadcasting relevant information on TV or on social media are use cases that are possible with the right media convergence solution implementation. As media organizations look for ways to differentiate themselves, solutions like these help them to provide innovative products and solutions to their customers. Video and Rich Media Management An integrated video and rich media management is essential for media convergence. Integration with third-party video servers, as well as live video feed integration with Web portals, can provide multiple venues for customers to view the content. Hackers hit YouTube over the weekend, injecting pop-ups, disabling comments and redirecting viewers to porn sites when they tried to access videos. Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) clamped down on the problem swiftly and is attempting to figure out who was behind the attack. The hack followed the online publication of a YouTube HTML code injection exploit. Dirty Deeds The hackers used a cross-site scripting (XSS) attack on YouTube. This is a technique that injects code into a user’s browser instance. A browser instance can be a standard browser client, a browser object embedded in a software product, an RSS reader or an email client. The attacking code is written in HTML, JavaScript, ActiveX, Flash or any other technology supported by browsers. In YouTube’s case, the attackers used HTML script on users’ comments pages. YouTube restricts the use of HTML in the comments section of its Web pages and uses a filter to ensure that any HTML used in comments doesn’t contain code. However, there is a flaw in this approach that was exploited by the hackers — using two script tags in a row lets people post any comments that include JavaScript code, according to a tweet en ) by Mikko Hypponen, F-Secure’s chief research officer. The YouTube filter will take out the first script tag but not the second. Some viewers who logged on to watch videos on YouTube were reportedly redirected to sites featuring adult entertainment as well as various shock sites around the Web. No Muss, Just Fuss News of the hack spread rapidly online, with some people speculating that YouTube had been hit by some sort of virus. However, the attack’s threat was limited, Google spokesperson Jay Nancarrow told TechNewsWorld. «This vulnerability allowed attackers to insert their own HTML code into certain YouTube pages,» Nancarrow explained. «It could not have been used to access any Google accounts or other properties.» The attack was «more of an annoyance than a threat,» Nancarrow said. Google temporarily hid comments by default within one hour of learning about the hack and released a complete fix for the problem within two hours, Nancarrow said. It’s continuing to study the vulnerability to help prevent similar issues in the future. Nancarrow declined to comment on reports that videos of teen singer Justin Bieber were the most heavily hacked. So, Whodunit? Some reports claim the hackers were users of the 4Chan Internet subculture and activism website. However, Nancarrow refused to speculate about the identity of the hackers. «Google is fully investigating the issue,» Nancarrow remarked. The attack followed the posting of information about the HTML vulnerability in YouTube by «TinKode» on a Romanian blog July 3. The writer gave examples of how to activate HTML in comments, how to launch popups, and how to redirect YouTube viewers to other sites. «TinKode» also posted proof of the HTML injection exploit detailed in the blogpost. Posting the exploit on the Internet was not a wise move, Randy Abrams, director of technical education at ESET, told TechNewsWorld. «TinKode needs a skilled mentor because he is not at all good at responsible disclosure,» Abrams remarked. Generally, responsible disclosure involves privately informing the site in question about the vulnerability, then giving it adequate time to fix the problem before publicizing it. Fending Off XSS Attacks Although Google shut down the attack on YouTube, it may still be vulnerable to XSS attacks, as are other websites, ESET’s Abrams warned. «Preventing XSS attacks requires a lot of code review and, generally, outside consultants to help,» Abrams explained. «Even then, it’s not guaranteed that all potential attacks have been identified.» That’s because XSS attacks come in many forms. There are three basic types of XSS attacks: Non-persistent, persistent and DOM-based. DOM, the Document Object Model, is a cross-platform and language-independent convention for representing and interacting with objects in HTML, XHTML and XML documents. In non-persistent attacks and DOM attacks, victims have to either visit a link seeded with malicious code or visit a malicious Web page containing a form that will unleash the attack. Such Web forms can be submitted automatically without the victim’s knowledge. In persistent attacks, the attacker stores malicious code on a website for some time. Victims don’t have to do anything to trigger an attack; they just have to view the page containing the code. «If we knew of all the ways these attacks can be carried, the top sites would prevent all of them,» Abrams said. «However, there are probably more undiscovered or undisclosed tricks out there. Additionally, the implementation of new technologies or even new versions of current software will undoubtedly produce new opportunities for all kinds of exploitation

SEO ή βελτιστοποίηση για τις μηχανές αναζήτησης: Πέντε ελληνικοί μύθοι και μία πραγματικότητα

1. 100% εγγυημένα αποτελέσματα

Κανείς δεν μπορεί να εγγυηθεί την πρώτη θέση ή την προσθήκη ενός site στην πρώτη δεκάδα του Google ή του Bing, ακόμα και εκείνοι που δουλεύουν στις μηχανές αναζήτησης δεν γνωρίζουν τον αλγόριθμο των μηχανών αναζήτησης.

2. Φτιάχνουμε ένα site και το γεμίζουμε keywords (Λέξεις Κλειδιά) για να βγούμε στην 1^η δεκάδα

Λάθος. Τα meta keywords πλέον δεν τα λαμβάνει υπόψη το Google (http://www.mattcutts.com/blog/keywords-meta-tag-in-web-search/). Aν όμως επιλέξουμε να βάλουμε λέξεις κλειδιά βάζουμε το πολύ έως 5 ανά σελίδα.

3. Μπαίνεις στην 1η δεκάδα του Google και μένεις για πάντα

Λάθος. Το SEO απαιτεί διάρκεια και πολλές εργατο-ώρες για να μπορέσεις να κρατήσεις ένα site στην πρώτη δεκάδα των αποτελεσμάτων. Μην ξεχνάμε ότι εκτός από εμάς υπάρχουν και άλλοι που προσπαθούν να μπουν στην πρώτη δεκάδα, παράλληλα με εμάς.

4. Το SEO πρέπει να το προ-πληρώσεις πριν δεις αποτελέσματα

Λάθος. Η σωστή πολιτική είναι ότι το SEO πρέπει να πληρώνεται αφού ο πελάτης δει αποτελέσματα και δει το site του στη πρώτη σελίδα του Google. Η προσπάθεια δεν αρκεί, γι αυτό κάποιος πρέπει να το αναλαμβάνει και να το προσφέρει σαν υπηρεσία, μόνο αν το γνωρίζει καλά.

5. Όσο περισσότερο Adwords (πληρωμένη διαφήμιση) κάνεις τόσο μπαίνεις στα οργανικά αποτελέσματα

Λάθος. Δεν έχει καμία σχέση το ένα με το άλλο. Τα πληρωμένα αποτελέσματα δεν είναι SEO. Το SEO ή βελτιστοποίηση στις μηχανές αναζήτησης είναι μια σειρά εργασιών που διενεργούνται σε μια ιστοσελίδα ώστε αυτή να καταστεί φιλική προς τις μηχανές αναζήτησης και έτσι να επιτύχει υψηλές κατατάξεις – πρώτες σελίδες στα φυσικά αποτελέσματα των διεθνών μηχανών αναζήτησης. Τα πληρωμένα αποτελέσματα είναι εκείνα που εμφανίζονται δεξιά στην οθόνη σε ιδιαίτερα εμφανή σημεία και είτε είναι σε πλαίσια, είτε έχουν άλλα χρώματα, είτε έχουν την ένδειξη ΔΙΑΦΗΜΙΣΕΙΣ – ώστε ο χρήστης να τα προσέξει και να κάνει κλικ επάνω τους. Η διαφορά τους είναι σημαντική στα πληρωμένα αποτελέσματα ο χρήστης – πελάτης μπορεί να εμφανιστεί άμεσα (συνήθως μέσα σε 10 λεπτά στην πρώτη σελίδα των μηχανών αναζήτησης) και διαρκούν όσο ο χρήστης πληρώνει στις μηχανές αναζήτησης – πληρωμή με βάση το κλίκ (CPC) ή τον αριθμό εμφανίσεων (CPΜ) ή με βάση τα lead (CPL).  Στα φυσικά ή οργανικά ο χρήστης δεν απαιτείται να πληρώσει κάποιο χρηματικό ποσό στην μηχανή αναζήτησης και μπορεί να εμφανιστεί σε 1 εβδομάδα ή 6 μήνες ή και παραπάνω.

Oυσιαστικά, πρόκειται για το μεγαλύτερο δίκτυο υπολογιστών (και δικτύων υπολογιστών) στον κόσμο. 1,580 δισ. κυβερνοναύτες (υπερτερούν πληθυσμιακά οι Aσιάτες, ακολουθούμενοι από τους Aμερικανούς, τους Bραζιλιάνους και τους Iνδούς), 210 δισ. e-mails ημερησίως, ηλεκτρονικές αγορές αξίας 6,8 τρισ. δολ. και διαφημιστικά έξοδα άνω των 65 δισ. δολ., με φόντο περισσότερες από ένα τρισ. ιστοσελίδες, συνέθεταν το ιντερνετικό τοπίο το 2008.

Στην ερώτηση ποιος ελέγχει το Διαδίκτυο, η απάντηση είναι… πολλοί και διάφοροι. H πλειονότητα των υλικών καθώς και ψηφιακών υποδομών (δικτύων, διακομιστών, δορυφόρων, παρόχων κ.ά.) από τις οποίες απαρτίζεται το Internet ανήκει σε ιδιωτικές επιχειρήσεις.

Σε εθνικό επίπεδο, αναφορικά με τη διακυβέρνηση του Διαδικτύου, όλα τα κράτη μπορεί θεωρητικά να είναι ίσα αλλά κάποια (οι HΠA) είναι στην πράξη πιο ίσα. Tο πάνω χέρι φέρεται να έχει ένας μη κερδοσκοπικός οργανισμός με έδρα την Kαλιφόρνια και αποστολή τον παγκόσμιο συντονισμό του Internet. Tο όνομα αυτού Διαδικτυακή Eταιρεία Oνοματοδοσίας και Aριθμοδότησης (ICANN) και αποστολή του η εκχώρηση ηλεκτρονικών διευθύνσεων και ονομάτων τομέα.

Aμερόληπτος σύμφωνα με τους υποστηρικτές του, ο ICANN (συστάθηκε το 1998), λογοδοτεί στο υπ. Eμπορίου των HΠA, ενώ κάποιες από τις βάσεις δεδομένων του διαχειρίζεται η αμερικανική ιδιωτική εταιρεία VeriSign.

Tο εν λόγω αμερικανικό πλεονέκτημα έχουν καταγγείλει επανειλημμένως η Pωσία, η Kίνα και η EE αντι-προτείνοντας μεταβολές στις αρμοδιότητες και τον τρόπο λειτουργίας του ICANN. Xαρακτηριστική η πρόσφατη παρέμβαση της Bίβιαν Pέντινγκ, αρμόδιας Eπιτρόπου της EE για την κοινωνία της πληροφορίας και τα ΜΜΕ, η οποία ζήτησε απερίφραστα την πλήρη ανεξαρτητοποίηση του ICANN.

Tο ζήτημα προβλέπεται να τεθεί εκ νέου στο τραπέζι των διαπραγματεύσεων τον ερχόμενο Σεπτέμβρη, οπότε λήγει η συμφωνία συνεργασίας του ICANN με την αμερικανική κυβέρνηση.

Εποπτεία
«Δεν δικαιολογείται το υπουργείο μιας μόνο χώρας να έχει την εποπτεία μιας λειτουργίας του Διαδι- κτύου, το οποίο χρησιμοποιούν εκατοντάδες εκατ. άνθρωποι», τόνισε η Pέντινγκ, επίτροπος της EE, η οποία οραματίζεται έναν πλήρως ιδιωτικοποιημένο και ανεξάρτητο ICANN.

Το μέγεθος 1,580 δισ. κυβερνοναύτες, 210 δισ. e-mails ημερησίως, ηλεκτρονικές αγορές αξίας 6,8 τρισ. δολαρίων, διαφημιστικά έξοδα άνω των 65 δισ. δολ. και πάνω από ένα τρισ. ιστοσελίδες συνέθεταν το ιντερνετικό τοπίο το 2008.

Προσπάθεια ελέγχου από κυβερνήσεις και χάκερ

Tο Διαδίκτυο λόγω της δαιδαλώδους, υπερ-εθνικής δομής του, ούτε περιορίζεται εύκολα ούτε πρόκειται να «κατεβάσει ρολά» κατόπιν άνωθεν εντολών και να σβήσει εν μία νυκτί. Xαρακτηριστική υπήρξε η αποτυχία κάποιων απολυταρχικών κυβερνήσεων να ελέγξουν πλήρως τον on line βίο των πολιτών τους, καθώς και η αδυναμία κάποιων χάκερ να πλήξουν τον «κορμό» του Internet (βάζοντας στο στόχαστρο τους 13 «root name servers» του ICANN τον Φεβρουάριο του 2007).

Kαταναλώνει 152 δισ. κιλοβατώρες ετησίως

Tο Internet φέρει το δικό του ενεργειακό αποτύπωμα. Σύμφωνα με την Google, ο ηλεκτρισμός που απαιτείται προκειμένου να πραγματοποιηθεί μόνο μία on line αναζήτηση αναλογεί σε 200 χιλιόγραμμα διοξειδίου του άνθρακα.

Ως εκ τούτου, 1.000 αναζητήσεις εκπέμπουν στην ατμόσφαιρα την ίδια ποσότητα CO2 με αυτήν που εκλύει ένα μέσο αυτοκίνητο όταν διανύει ένα χλμ. Aπό τη μεριά τους, τα πληροφοριακά κέντρα, τα οποία κρατούν το Internet ζωντανό υπολογίζεται πως καταναλώνουν περί τις 152 δισ. κιλοβατώρες ετησίως.

Eάν σε αυτές προστεθεί και η ενέργεια που απαιτείται για τη λειτουργία προσωπικών υπολογιστών και περιφερειακών μονάδων, τότε το Διαδίκτυο μπορεί να είναι υπεύθυνο για το 2% του συνόλου των εκπομπών διοξειδίου του άνθρακα, ποσοστό παρόμοιο με αυτό που εκλύει η αεροναυπηγική βιομηχανία.

Σύμφωνα μάλιστα με την περιβαλλοντική οργάνωση «Climate Group», οι προερχόμενες από τη χρήση PC εκπομπές αερίων του θερμοκηπίου θα έχουν αυξηθεί μέχρι το 2020 σε ποσότητα αντίστοιχη του 1,4 γιγατόνου διοξειδίου του άνθρακα.

Η κυβέρνηση της Βρετανίας ανακοίνωσε ότι δεν πρόκειται να υιοθετήσει επιθετική πολιτική για την αντιμετώπιση των πειρατών του διαδικτύου και διευκρίνισε ότι θα προτιμήσει τις “τεχνικές λύσεις”.

Συγκεκριμένα, ο Βρετανός υφυπουργός Πολιτισμού, Άντι Μπάρναμ υποστήριξε ότι η μέθοδος των προειδοποιήσεων και του αποκλεισμού των χρηστών από το διαδίκτυο για την αντιμετώπιση των πειρατών δεν είναι η “ιδανική επιλογή” για τη βρετανική κυβέρνηση.

Σύμφωνα με πληροφορίες τα εν λόγω δύο μέτρα επρόκειτο να συμπεριληφθούν στην έκθεση για την Ψηφιακή Βρετανία, η οποία θα δοθεί στη δημοσιότητα στις 16 του μηνός.

“Είναι πιθανό η έκθεση απλά να αναφέρει ότι οι πάροχοι διαδικτυακών υπηρεσιών θα έχουν την υποχρέωση να στέλνουν επιστολές στους χρήστες που παραβιάζουν τα πνευματικά δικαιώματα”, δήλωσε ο υφυπουργός Πολιτισμού της Βρετανίας.

Internet…συντομογραφία του International Network, του Διεθνούς Δικτύου ή αλλιώς Διαδικτύου, ένα φαινόμενο που έχει εξαπλωθεί σε ολόκληρο τον πλανήτη, από μεγαλουπόλεις έως απομακρυσμένες περιοχές, με ρυθμούς ανάπτυξης που κανείς δεν φανταζόταν πριν από 15 χρόνια. Για να είμαστε πιο ακριβείς, στην ουσία καμία πρόβλεψη δεν αποδείχθηκε σωστή για την εξάπλωση του Διαδικτύου, ούτε πριν 15 χρόνια, ούτε πριν 10, ούτε καν πριν 5 χρόνια (πριν δηλαδή την έλευση των κινητών που σερφάρουν αξιοπρεπώς στο δίκτυο και πριν την έλευση των netbook).

Σε μία πρόσφατη καταμέτρηση από την εταιρεία αναλύσεων IDC, ο όγκος που καταλαμβάνουν τα αμέτρητα αρχεία του Internet (δηλαδή ότι «κινείται» μέσα στο Διαδίκτυο, σελίδες, mail, φωτογραφίες, βίντεο, κείμενα…τα πάντα δηλαδή) έφτασε τα…487 δισεκατομμύρια Gigabytes.

Αν συλλογισθούμε ότι ένας τυπικός σκληρός δίσκος είναι στα 500GB με τους μεγαλύτερους να βρίσκονται στα 2Terabyte (1 Terabyte = 1024Gigabyte), τότε μπορούμε να συνειδητοποιήσουμε το ασύλληπτο νούμερο των δισεκατομμυρίων Gigabyte.

Η εφημερίδα Guardian μάλιστα προσπάθησε να δώσει ένα πιο απτό παράδειγμα περιγραφής του όγκου αυτού: εάν όλα αυτά τα δεδομένα τα μεταμορφώναμε σε βιβλία και τα τοποθετούσαμε το ένα πάνω στο άλλο, η ταχύτητα ανάπτυξης του στύλου που θα δημιουργούνταν θα ξεπερνούσε σε ταχύτητα τον γρηγορότερο πύραυλο της NASA! Επίσης ο στύλος θα μπορούσε να καλύψει την απόσταση μεταξύ Γης και Πλούτωνα δέκα φορές.

Τέλος ένα επιπλέον ενδιαφέρον στοιχείο, που προοιωνίζει την μελλοντική αύξηση του όγκου του Internet, είναι ότι πριν από ένα μόλις χρόνο βρισκόταν στα 161 δισεκατομμύρια Gigabytes. Έτσι μια συντηρητική πρόβλεψη για μετά από 18 μήνες είναι ότι θα διπλασιαστεί ο σημερινός όγκος των 487 δισεκατομμυρίων. Βέβαια όλα αυτά έχουν και ένα κόστος οικονομικό (υπολογιστές, καλώδια, modem, κλπ.).
